Bread Chain is a type of social theatre which is based on the participation of pensioners, club members of the Union of Pensioners (UP) in a city, municipality and region. At the beginning of each mandate, they meet with the Chairman of the UP, the Mayor, the managing body and members of the Local Parliament. They do not act on stage but communicate with the relevant authorities in order to present the main activities, accomplishments, problems and expectations of each club aimed at achieving specific agreements for improving their life through training, tradition-preserving events, cooperation, cultural events and communication. This specific social theatre is called Bread chain, because:

• It encompasses activities of the project Tastes of Danube; Bread Connects;
• The visitors to the club are welcomed with bread that has been baked for the specific event;
• The main theme of each meeting is the Bread that connects us as well as its role in the social life of the members of the respective club;
• All the meetings are held one after the other, like a chain, within a short period of time and a common scenario related to the topic of bread.

The method consists of creating a digitalized collection of proverbs and sayings from the Danube countries. In this initiative, traditional sayings regarding bread, wine and herbs are collected by the participants and later compared and studied for similarities and differences between the countries, bearing in mind national and European identity.

The purpose of the method is an International Photo Competition, divided in three areas - Bread, Wine and Herbs. The contest is aimed at every individual who wishes to show the role which one of the three topics have in relation to their daily life, or to their countries’ living cultural customs and religious traditions.

The Sparrow action is an activity initiated with the aim of connecting people through baking together and then sharing small sparrow-cakes with others, whom they did not know before, thus delivering a message of peace and unity.

This method consists of exchanging small packages between 4 different institutions (NGO or schools), which have not been in contact before, from a number of Danubian countries. The coordinator, ILEU e.V., formed the mixed groups and presented the photos of the packages on the website. The packages contain key information about the way Christmas is celebrated in the participating countries, as well as several notable items, specific to the manner in which the countries celebrate Christmas and information about the own group, in native language and in English.

This method consists of the development and implementation of a workshop in which school students are familiarised with European identity concepts, gaining awareness of the similarities between the various EU nations, by the means of comparing different bread recipes from the named nations. Also, bread-tasting takes place, where everybody gets a chance to discuss the topics which they were introduced to.

Combing  studying architecture, urbanism, French literature and songs about bakers and bread baking, intergenerational events.

The Bread-Therapy Workshop consists of a series of activities centred on the making of bread, done by a group of individuals with special needs. The aim of this method is to enhance communication, creative and teambuilding skills of people with special needs. The pupils make bread, in small teams, collaborate, share ideas, and work on the task in an amusing way for everyone.

During the Cultural-Artistic Event, the participants are presenting creative materials and artistic creations in the domains of music, art and literature, all connected by the theme of bread. Presented are  own personal experiences with the subject of bread, as well as several traditional and cultural notes related to the named subject.
