Identifying existing baking houses by asking people, using e-mail contact in existing networks and research via Internet. If possible, drive to the baking houses, take photos, ask neighbours or other people about the details of the baking house. Get the contact address of the local municipal administration. Start an Internet based research with various key words and combinations to find baking houses. The next step is to get the relevant information about the baking house. Important are photos which you are allowed to publish. Get detailed information directly or via e-mail or phone communication with the local municipal administration or people in the village.
Try to get all relevant information about the history of the baking house, the technical aspects, type of oven, heating material, the number of persons using it, the frequency of use, the specialities, festivals, workshops with children or adults.

Step 1
Take a decision if you like to make the research on local, regional or national or international level. Form a group of volunteers interested in researching in this thematic area. Define with the members of the group what you intend to achieve in a limited period. Create with them criteria for the research and based upon them a bake-house questionnaire with items such as country, village, Zip code, location, contact person, history, technology of the oven, heating material, number of users, frequency of use, photos incl. rights to publish, documentation, reports in newspapers, website, specialities to be baked, festivals, workshops with children and adults, known bake-houses in other villages.

If you work on international level, try to share the results with the other groups and find out if there are similarities or differences.

The research is rather often time consuming. It takes time to identify the right person and to get the necessary contact data. Often you have to mail or to phone several times.
